Blackridge Reservoir

This is my attempt to get to a beach. We went to check out Blackridge Reservoir. It was small but had sand and water and that's all we were after. The kids all found something they enjoyed doing. The girls swam in the lake and were a little too daring for our liking, Carter loved filling buckets with water and dumping them, and Matson had a ball in the sand. He ate more rocks and sand than any child should ever eat, but he was happy! Here are some pictures from the afternoon.

Happy Fourth!

Summer Days...

John is working on a project building a retaining wall and leveling our hill into tiers so we can have a garden. It's looking good! Carter went to his 1st Father's and Sons Camp out with his dad. He loved it! His favorite part was reading books in the tent before they went to sleep. He took a whole backpack full of books, but he told me he needs MORE books next time. He didn't have enough. He was sick the day of the camp out but he mustered up enough strength to go anyway. He didn't want to miss sleeping up on the mountain with dad. He was so excited! The kids are enjoying fun days with friends and having picnics in our fort.Even Matson is trying to join in the fun these days.Emily and Carter love setting up a pool for the polly's outside. I'm sure Carter is going to LOVE this picture when he's a little older!

The girls formed a "Rescuers" club with their neighbor friends. Their mission was to rescue insects that needed them. They went around the neighborhood looking for bugs and even had a scripted chant they sang as they walked around. It was pretty adorable and kept them very entertained for several days. They were able to rescue a grasshopper that had been run over and was missing legs. They named him "Striker" and cared for him but ended up having to bury him the next day. So sad. :(

First Haircut

After my first haircut. My mom thinks I look a little older.

Matson had his first hair cut at my friend Megan's salon in her house. It worked out great because he wasn't nervous since he loves Megan and is used to being at her house (she babysat him while I taught preschool). In fact, after the haircut Megan was holding him and he wouldn't come back to me. I think he wanted to stay and play with her. I was a little offended but I'm SO glad he loves her so much!

Toothless Wonder

The teeth just keep coming out. Makes me wonder how she's going to eat!

Emily and Lizzie and their matching toothless smiles. These two are so in sync with each other. They even lose their teeth at the same time! :)

Fireman at the Parade

Carter insisted on going to our city parade in full fireman gear. It was pretty hot but he didn't care. He wanted to show the firemen his fire clothes. :)

We discovered that going to a parade dressed up is a great way to bring attention to yourself and get a TON of candy. Everyone on the floats were smiling and pointing at Carter and throwing candy right at him! He was in heaven! When the firemen came by and saw him, they were tickled pink by his "costume". They ran up to him and gave him HANDFULS of candy. He came home with twice as much candy as my girls did. He totally cleaned up!

He sure loved his parade experience. I'm pretty sure he just thought that all the parade watchers got that much attention. He felt so important!

The Saratoga Shores entry came by and Mr. Goodman was driving his shark car. He pulled over to us and stopped his car and chatted with Kelsie for a minute. Made Kelsie's day!

The girls got these snazzy glasses thrown to them at the parade. Pretty awesome! We had a great first week of summer break enjoying the city picnic, movie night at the park, and parade.

Good-bye

It was a week of good-byes for us. The girls said good-bye to Saratoga Shores, good-bye to their teachers and friends, and good-bye to riding the bus. They will never ride a bus again (sad for me). I went down to the bus stop to take pics of them on their final ride home for summer. The picture pretty much says it all and it's the only one I got. Emily jumped off the bus in complete jubilation. Kelsie was sobbing as she stumbled off the bus and ran to my arms. It was completely heartbreaking. It was not what I was expecting at all because she is not a crier and in past years she's been counting down the days until summer break. But, she was so sad to leave Mr. Goodman. He really was THAT amazing. It was extra hard knowing she would be at a new school next year and wouldn't see Mr. Goodman or a lot of her friends that she's made this year. Sad day.

It was also the week to say good-bye to another season of soccer. This is Emily and John's soccer team.

The Real Mascot showed up during Emily's soccer game. It was pretty awesome! He watched their game and then let us all run up for photo ops. Fun!

John handed out the medals to his players and then handed Carter an extra one. He was SO proud. Just look at that face.

Kelsie played the best game of her life and then got sick halfway through and we had to head home. :(
