The Arrival

August 12th was the planned date of arrival for our little guy. I went into the hospital to be induced and was started at about 8 AM. We spent a lot of time hanging out and waiting. After the epidural my blood pressure kept dropping so I was very dizzy and weak and they kept giving me more medicine to raise my blood pressure. Around 2:00 PM I was getting pretty discouraged because I was still at a 4 and felt like it was going to be many more hours before we'd get him here. My nurse and John both predicted that he'd be born in the next hour (around 3:00). I thought they were crazy but it did give me some hope. Twenty minutes later I was at a 9 and was close to delivery. That didn't seem to make the nurses overly concerned as they left us alone and didn't come back to check on me. A little before three I started calling my nurse and telling them that I was about to have the baby and I really needed someone to come in the room. No one came so I called again. By this time I was getting a little panicked because I really was starting to think that he was going to come out with no doctor in the room. Finally, the nurse and doctor came into the room, I pushed 6 times and he was here. Arriving at 3:09 PM on Aug. 12th 2010. The doctor turned him as he came out because he was posterior and he had a slight shoulder dysotcia that they had to work around to get him out. The doctor pulled him out and said he was a good sized kid for 11 days early (he weighed in at 8 lbs 3 oz.) He never out a cry so I was really worried. Finally, they handed my little boy to me. He was purple and goopy and absolutely perfect.

Sleepy

It must be so exhausting to sleep all day. This little guy sleeps all day and acts so annoyed if you try to wake him up. He's just so worn out all the time. And he sleeps in the cutest positions ever.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the day our little boy is scheduled to make his big arrival. I am being induced a week and a half early in hopes of getting him here before he gets too big. We had complications with Carter because he weighed 9 pounds 13 ounces and had shoulder dystocia as a result. (Which is basically when the size of the baby (or shoulders) are too large to fit through the birth canal). During the final moments of delivery, Carter's head was out but his shoulder's were stuck behind the pelvic bone. His clavicle was broken during the birth process which ultimately allowed him to get out.

My OB did an amazing job of getting Carter out. The most amazing part was how she panicked when she saw the situation but then calmed down and went to work and convinced me that everything was just fine (which is just what I needed ). I didn't appreciate how amazing she was until my new OB explained shoulder dystocia in more detail and explained the risks, complications, and difficulties it brings for an OB at delivery. This time I'm a lot more nervous because I'm going into it knowing all the things that could go wrong.

The size of this baby is pretty much all I've been able to think about for the last couple of weeks. I'm excited and nervous. Mostly just hoping he isn't too big and he will make it here safely tomorrow. :)

Treehouse Museum

We took the kids to the Treehouse Museum for the day. We called it our "vacation" day in a feeble attempt to convince the kids that we went on a vacation even though we had no ability to go anywhere this summer. Kelsie ate up the idea which is all we were looking for since she's the only one old enough to care. We had never been to the new museum and the kids loved it. They were entertained for most of the day and I got a billion cute pictures so I had to post a lot. It is an awesome place. We'd totally recommend if if you haven't been.

Firefighters to the rescue!

Carter getting a ticket to board the train. He loved this.

The girls playing school in the pioneer classroom.

Kelsie and Emily loved the doll room and spent forever examining the hundreds of dolls.

Stepping into Mexico.

Building an airplane. He was pretty intense about his work.

Emily down on the farm.

John feeling very presidential

The girls loved the area where they could play doctor and take care of their newborn baby. It was very realistic and they would have played there all day.

Kelsie and her baby

When we got home we had a Wii Marathon and then had pizza, treats, and watched movies together. We told the girls they could stay up until midnight watching movies, of course we assumed they'd fall asleep long before that. We learned our lesson on that one. They managed to stay awake until midnight and never even dozed off. Crazy kids. Next time we'll make 10:00 sound really exciting and fun.

Earrings

Kelsie had been BEGGING to get her ears pierced for about 6 months and I kept putting her off. Then her best friend got her ears pierced she could no longer think or talk about anything but getting her ears pierced. So I caved to the peer pressure and told her I'd take her. Plus, my sister manages Claire's Boutique at our mall and I really wanted her to get it done by her own Aunt. How cool is that! The before picture. She was really excited but you can tell she's a little uneasy too.

Getting her ears pierced. She got to have both of them done at once...that's one of the perks to knowing the manager, I hear. :)

Her new earrings. She chose a light pink birthstone.

The after picture and she's still smiling! She claims it didn't hurt at all. We're having a hard time believing her but she didn't even flinch when they pierced them so maybe she's a lot tougher than I realized.

Kelsie and Aunt Michelle
Kelsie loves her new earrings and now the constant question is "how many more weeks until I can put new earrings in? and "when can you take me to the store to buy earrings?" She is so excited to be able to wear fun earrings and match her outfits. So fun!

Names

We are really still struggling with what to name our little boy due to arrive in 9 days (not that I'm counting). So if anyone has an opinion on which name they like, or new ideas, we're open to them. These are the names we're considering:

Tanner
Matson
Bradley
Matthew

Stories of the Other Kids Names....

We knew Kelsie would be Kelsie long before she came along. I was one of those girls who had a compiled list of future baby names. Kelsie was top on the list. When we were dating we were discussing names (funny he'd talk names then and not now :) and he had seen the name Kelsie in an office he was cleaning at the ASB and just loved it. From the day we found out she was a girl we knew she'd be our Kelsie Ann.

Emily was a little more complicated. I had my names, John had his. I liked Kylie, Allie, Kennedy, Paige. John liked Emily, Allison, Natalie. The only one we sort of agreed on was Emily. But it was the #1 baby girl name for the last ten years....I hated the idea of a billion Emily's. Right after she was born, John handed her to me and said, "she's Emily isn't she?" As much as I hated to admit it, he was right. The minute I saw her she was our Emily Paige.

Carter was supposed to be Bradley (that's John's middle name). That was always going to be our first boy's name. The problem was that Carter was never a Bradley, in my mind. He was always a Carter. In the end, I handed John a list of names on the night before he was born. On the list were three baby names (Carter, Bradley, and Matson) with various middle names. He said that Carter John popped out and he knew that would be his name.

And now to the current dilemma. What to name boy #2...if anyone has opinions on which name they like...or some new ideas...we're open to them!
