Tomorrow is the day our little boy is scheduled to make his big arrival. I am being induced a week and a half early in hopes of getting him here before he gets too big. We had complications with Carter because he weighed 9 pounds 13 ounces and had shoulder dystocia as a result. (Which is basically when the size of the baby (or shoulders) are too large to fit through the birth canal). During the final moments of delivery, Carter's head was out but his shoulder's were stuck behind the pelvic bone. His clavicle was broken during the birth process which ultimately allowed him to get out.
My OB did an amazing job of getting Carter out. The most amazing part was how she panicked when she saw the situation but then calmed down and went to work and convinced me that everything was just fine (which is just what I needed ). I didn't appreciate how amazing she was until my new OB explained shoulder dystocia in more detail and explained the risks, complications, and difficulties it brings for an OB at delivery. This time I'm a lot more nervous because I'm going into it knowing all the things that could go wrong.
The size of this baby is pretty much all I've been able to think about for the last couple of weeks. I'm excited and nervous. Mostly just hoping he isn't too big and he will make it here safely tomorrow. :)
