I've become really aware lately of how much I rely on my mom, for help, for advice, for everything. The last few months my mom hasn't really been around because of lots of family catastrophes. I mean I've seen her in passing in ICU waiting rooms and at funeral luncheons...but it's really not the same. It's made me realize that our job as mom certainly doesn't stop at 18 or even 30, it goes on and on. I know that my children as adults will still need a mom to turn to for advice and help during hard times...and I hope they want to turn to me. I am so grateful for my strong mom who keeps on going through all the hard times and makes the best of things. Today, I think my mom is just amazing and here's why...
In December my 35 year old sister had a heart attack. It was a huge shock since my sister is healthy, has no risk factors, and just had a baby. The months that have followed have been full of hospital visits and complications. My mom practically moved in to my sisters to care for her four young children so her husband could work and she could recover. In the midst of all of that, my grandpa passed away. My mom headed to Idaho to be with her family, plan her dad's funeral, and be the executor of the will. When things seemed to be calming down a little, she headed home to recuperate. But, my grandma caught pneomonia at the funeral and was hospitalized. My mom went back to care for Grandma when she came home from the hospital. My mom recently came home and was just exhausted from the last few months. This is why it meant so much to me when my mom showed up on my doorstep with dinner while I had the flu. She brought dinner, watched my kids, and managed to clean all my bathrooms too. Pretty impressive--I seriously can't get all my bathrooms cleaned in a single day :). I am so grateful for my mom who is always willing to help. She has always been a great example to me of serving others, no matter how much you've already done or how tired you are. And I really hope things will calm down a little, and my poor mom will get a rest.

Your mom is pretty amazing!!!!! You are lucky you have her! Yeah a mom shouldn't really stop being a mom when her kids leave the home. I believe it is just as important to keep being mom.
Hope you are feeling better! Sorry you have been sick. Are you sure it is just the flu? From the facebook test you took you are going to have 6 kids. Just kidding! :)
That was a genuinely sweet tribute to your sweet mother! I feel the same way about mine and I really do hope that I will be as good a mom to my kids as my mom has been to me. I think we are very blessed to have such amazing mothers! The truly put others before themselves. Thanks for the sweet entry. (btw, are you feeling any better? I am getting plastered over here! I don't have a temp. though, but I've got the worst head cold - aaaaa!)
Holy Cow! How is your sister now? So scary.
Wow! Moms are fantastic are they!! Your mom sounds amazing! Your kids are adorable too! They have grown so much! I still remember you and John in that little apartment in orem. You have an amazing family!
What a whirlwind! How is your sister now? Which sister was it? Scary!
Yes, moms are absolutely amazing and how wonderful for you to have your mom close by. I'm jealous of you! Hopefully she can get some rest but she probably will keep serving everyone because that's what moms do. :) Hope you are feeling better!
ohh-that made me almost cry. Thank goodness for moms huh-I don't know how they do it. Wow! thanks for sharing about your amazing mommy
Okay, your mom is amazing! Can I be like her when I grow up too? And I LOVE what your doctor said about Carter not saying MaMa. I'm TOTALLY going to use that as why Maddox won't say it either. Too cute!
Moms are so fabulous. I miss mine so much, even 6 years later. I'm glad to hear that you are appreciating having your mom around. I'm having guilt trips that all this has been going on in your life and I had no idea. I REALLY need to get together with you soon.
